Welcome to Lavethan
We bring people together for music, art, holidays and creative courses. Set in a secluded valley near the Camel river, Lavethan (pronounced La-ve-than) is an ancient Cornish manor house steeped in history and surrounded by majestic trees and extensive gardens. Whether you visit to learn, unwind, or celebrate, Lavethan’s historic charm and stunning surroundings will leave you feeling inspired and rejuvenated.
What We Do
Concerts
Music lovers enjoy top-quality concerts in our lovingly restored Barn, with stunning views out over the trees and the river valley. We host regular performances of classical, folk, and jazz music, featuring brilliant young musicians at the start of their careers as well as seasoned professionals. Past artists include Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the Tim Kliphuis Trio and the Brodsky Quartet. The Barn seats up to 80 people, and the intimacy of the surroundings makes these concerts a special experience, bringing listeners into close contact with the musicians.
Courses & Retreats
Lavethan offers excellent facilities for residential courses and creative workshops including music, writing, theatre, art, yoga, birdwatching and restorative therapy for children and adults. Across the various buildings, we can accommodate up to 30 guests with plenty of space for different activities. However, small groups can also enjoy total privacy in separate parts of the estate. Visitors to Lavethan always remark on the cleanness of the air and the deep quiet of the surroundings: no road noise, only the sound of trees, birds and the rushing river far below.
Enquiries are welcome from anyone interested in running a course.
Events
We host a variety of community events through the year with a focus on local arts, enjoyment of the outdoors, wellness and food. Events at Lavethan have included talks on the trees, the architectural history of the building, mindfulness and meditation workshops, pop-up meals from local chefs, birdwatching days and Open Garden afternoons raising money for local charities such as Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Children’s Hospice South West.
Enquiries are welcome from anyone interested in holding an event at Lavethan.

Lavethan is a wonderful place to stay. Its charm and beauty make it a perfect spot in which to connect with nature and spend time with others. Larger family gatherings can easily be accommodated. Holiday-makers renting our comfortable self-catering cottages can explore the extensive grounds and enjoy Lavethan’s huge trees (including Cornwall’s largest plane tree) and abundant flora and fauna. Blisland village, a quarter of a mile away, has a well-stocked shop and an excellent pub.
“Thank you so much for this utterly life-altering experience! Lavethan has the most beautiful energy and I feel so privileged to have spent the week making music in this gorgeous place.”
